Corriente Alterna 2025

Corriente Alterna is an international biennial live arts platform celebrating the multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary innovative Mexican, Chicanx, and Latinx makers from Mexico and the United States. Corriente Alterna builds on our existing collaborations with organizations including Latino Hispanic Dancers United (San Francisco), Punto de Inflexión and others. The 2025 program was presented by PROArtes México in partnership with loveDANCEmore and the Consulate of Mexico in Salt Lake City.

Punto de Inflexión (Utah) presents From the Borderlands to the Roots

April 10-12, 2025 — 7:30 pm

From the Borderlands to the Roots (2023) is a piece inspired by (but not limited to) the Latinx identity and immigrant experience. This is an homage to the cultural heritage of those who make this country function and are undervalued and almost invisible, laborers and working-class immigrants. Borderlands is possible in collaboration and thanks to the RDT Link Series.

Punto de Inflexión and loveDANCEmore present a SLC Dance Community Showcase

The SLC Dance Community Showcase presents seven local dance groups from different movement styles to celebrate the cultural heritage of our Mexican, Chicanx, and Latinx communities. Porta Teatro (México) presents Wilma

April 16-17, 2025 — 7:30 pm

Wilma tells the story of a girl who grows up as a foreigner in her own land, isolated by the racism and classism imposed by her grandmother, who prohibits her from learning Mayan and hanging out with Mayan speakers. One of the worst hurricanes in history suddenly arrives on the Mayan peninsula. The alert for cyclones is issued in the Mayan language. She, unable to communicate with others, tries to survive a hurricane without anyone’s help. Will she survive?

Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s short story, “First Love,” Primer Amor is a love story between a man and a woman trapped in the most absurd loneliness, who share their destiny as a continuous beginning. This piece combines dance, clown, pantomime, and juggling techniques to create a playful performance for all audiences.
